"Music that will go right through you."

I guess you know music with operatic vocals and progressive elements, although they are rare in the metal scene but have you ever listen to a band that combines ancient myths with music?

With their second album “Arakhne”, released under FYB records on the 23rd of October 2016, the Greek band Enemy of Reality made a diverse album based on the ancient Hellenic myth of the spider's origins and creation. The band consists of 5 members: Iliana - Vocals, Steelianos - Guitars, Thanos - Bass, Leonidas - Keyboards and Philip - Drums.

They had the chance to play songs from the album at the MFVF XIII in October 2016. They shared the stage with artists such as Tarja, Leaves' Eyes, Tristania, Mayan and Liv Kristine among others.

Besides, a notable mention is the incredible artwork of the album. It was designed by Tony Midi Artworks.

Furthermore, the album offers also guest appearances by Jeff Waters (Annihilator), Fabio Lione (Rhapsody of Fire/Angra) and Chiara Malvestiti (Therion/Chrysalys).

At first, I thought about a real opera when I was reading about the concept of the album. I could imagine the talking part (libretto) and had specific roles, even costumes in my head, of course based on the myth. The music and especially the complete story got vivid in my head. You will be completely soaked in the time and thematic. So much drama, power, versatility, turning points, brilliant riffs, and general fantastic guitar work, solos, laid back but supporting orchestration, keyboard work and a technical outstanding and dominant voice.

The arrangement, music combined with the versatile soprano voice reminds me a lot of older symphonic metal bands I loved and still do.

The fourth song “Time Immemorial” reminds me of After forever a lot. That is a huge compliment because they set a further milestone not only for women in this genre and in the lead, but also for their music and their unique sound experience.

Enemy of Reality seems to have picked up these ingredients and process it with their own elements and characteristics of their music.

The catchy song “In Hiding” will stuck in your head immediately and is a perfect single to demonstrate their capability.

They highly belong to the top list of the symphonic metal albums this year!
